Conspiracy Theorists
May 17, 2020If you are reading this online, chances are you are no longer in control of your mind.
That might be a bold statement, and for some it may not be true, but for the majority it will not take much to realize that you have sacrificed your mind to technology.
As technology has advanced, we have slowly plugged ourselves more and more into it. It is almost impossible to live without. We all know everything and how to do anything… until the internet is down.
How long can you comfortable manage without your phone, computer or other techno devices?
The reality is that with a push a few hours might be bearable, a full day would have you feeling alone and isolated, and longer than that will push you into some form of depression.
We have traded finding things to do around the house for on demand T.V. streaming, learning how to do something well for a quick YouTube or Google lookup. These innovations do have the potential to greatly increase our quality of life, yet they manage to steal more time from us than they give us in return.
All too often you see the pictures of people walking around staring at their phone screens, through the efficiency of being able to constantly communicate and entertain ourselves in this virtual world, we now don’t see the world we live in, we don’t spend time with the people we are with. Why talk to one person when you can have a group chat going and be talking to a dozen, why share the experience with the people you are with when you could be sharing it with the whole world on social media.
During this COVID-19 lockdown, people are complaining about having to be shut up in their house, imagine if there was no internet, you’d hear a lot less about people complaining, although people may go mad.
We have in a sense created a vehicle that gets us to our destination in half the time, but at the same time made it either so complicated, or so entertaining that we spend 3 times as much time in it, so through increasing efficiency we are willingly sacrificing much more time.

Consider the alternatives to what we do now, we will happily send hundreds or thousands of emails and chat messages. This used to be letters, I don’t think people would willing sit writing hundreds of letters willingly back in the day, yet constant typing of some form of message is done constantly through out the day now.
We used to flip through a few T.V. channels to see if there was anything worth watching, if not we’d try consider if it was worth re-watching one of the dozen or so videos we had, but ultimately we’d end up turning off the T.V. and finding something else to do. Now we have on-demand streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, ShowMax and many others, so we have constant access to thousands of hours of entertainment in any genre you like, we never need to leave the front of our screen again. And not only can we watch that on most modern T.V’s but we can also access it on our phone, tablet, laptop or any other internet connected device.
We have all this technology, all the potential, but more and more we are using it to sink into an unproductive, virtual world. We are letting it take over our minds and turn us into dummies. Our attention spans are decreasing, our learnt knowledge is decreasing and we are becoming hugely dependent on a permanent internet connection.
This technology gives us the tools to accomplish great things and share valuable information, it also has the potential to turn us into ignorant, dependent zombies. It is ultimately how we choose to use it that makes the difference.
The reality is there are a lot of companies that benefit from both, helping you use it to accomplish things, learn things and grow as a person, but there are also a lot of companies that make a huge amount of money by producing movies, series, games and many other things that don’t benefit you or help to improve your life in any way.
That means the choice ultimately is with you, how will you choose to let it effect your life, in a good way or a bad way?
