Be Yourself
February 16, 2020Existence is temporary, like REALLY temporary.
I am not referring to life and the length of it, but the existence of people and things in our life.
When you see someone, they exist, as soon as the are no longer around they cease to exist for you, you can conjure them up with a thought and that brings them back into existence for you, but if you don’t, they cease existing, at least as far as you are concerned.
And it does not only apply to people, also to things. You get our your car, and go into your house. Your car has ceased to exist for you, until you think about it, but even then it is just a thought, an imagination, you are thinking of your car quietly napping in the driveway. The reality is it could be doing 182km down the highway with a few very happy, nervous, but happy new temporary owners of it.
The reality of what we imagine can be so far from the truth, that in actual fact the person, or the thing you have conjured up can in-fact be a completely different entity to the actual one, so still the real person or thing has actually ceased existing until you are in their / its presence again.
I think that is why social media has taken off so well, it helps to bring people and places back into a more realistic existence for us.
When someone says “we’re going to the beach this weekend”. That could mean something completely different to you to what it actually is, so by being able to see their photo’s, hear little tweets about what they have been up to, your imaginary version of their activities and experiences are more accurate and we all love being right, especially when it is ourselves we are beating.
That is also probably why making a good first impression is so important, because you will walk away, and that person will put together a picture of you, they will create an imaginary you that you that will come up any time they use their mind powers to conjure you up. It could and usually is a very different person to who you are, but that is like asking a group of people what a million dollar watch will look like and be able to do, there will be very few matching ideas.
So in a nutshell, our existence to others is very temporary, as theirs is to us, the rest of the time we are just mentally interacting with an imaginary version of the impressions and knowledge we have of the person or thing.
